Objective Participants will apply the theory of multimedia learning to design a 5-7 slide mini-lecture video presentation for use in an LMS environment.
Cognitivism • Cognitive Learning Theory is an approach to the study of learning that focuses on the thought processes that underlie learning. • It is sometimes called brain-based learning. • Some major contributors were Jean Piaget, Leslie Hart, David P. Ausubel, Jerome Bruner and Robert Gagné.
Cognitive Theory of Multimedia LearningOriginated by Richard E. Mayer Based on 3 Assumptions: Dual-Channel – for visual/pictorial and auditory/verbal processing Limited Capacity – each channel has a limited capacity for processing Active Processing – organizes selected information into coherent mental representations, integrated with prior knowledge. 1 2 3

Mini-Lecture Project • Apply the theory of multimedia learning to design and record a 5-7 slide mini-lecture presentation, using PowerPoint or Google Drive and present.me. • After publishing the finished video in present.me, post the URL in forum provided for this purpose, and embed the code in the designated area in Moodle.
