  6. The Interior • Mount McKinley, the Alaska Range • Extreme temperature differences • Population 115,114 • Economy based on military activity, tourism, and mining

  7. The Arctic • Barrow, Arctic National Wildlife Refuge • Dry, very cold climate • Population 27,312 • Economy based on petroleum extraction
