After a year and a half, he sold the venture. • In January 2002, Joel joined Thierry Mugler Parfums and became Managing Director and then President in 2007, as well as President of the Thierry Mugler fashion division (January 2008). In June 2008, he rose to President of the Clarins Fragrance Group, which is composed of five luxury perfume brands: Thierry Mugler, Azzaro, Porsche Design, David Yurman, and Swarovski. • Clarins Fragrance Group • The brands that make up the Clarins Fragrance Group (CFG) come from very different universes and sources of inspiration. Meet this exceptionally charismatic fragrance industry executive. Life and career Joel was born in 1961 in southern Brittany, growing up in a very close family. After a successful preparatory year at Annecy, he joined the ESCP business school in Paris. After receiving his ESCP degree, Joel travelled to Berlin, Warsaw, Moscow, Irkutsk via the Trans-Siberian railway, Ulan Bator via the Trans-Mongolian railway, across the Gobi desert, and eventually arrived in Beijing. The adventure lasted three months. His first professional endeavor was opening an office for Datar (Délégation à l’aménagement du territoire et à l’action régionale) in Houston, Texas. He spent three years in this position. Upon returning to France, he joined an American company where he began developing his international career. He worked at Charles of the Ritz, which handles many perfume and beauty brands, including Yves Saint Laurent. Over a period of 10 years he rose in power, becoming the European CEO of Yves Saint Laurent Parfums in 1994. During this tenure with this company, he studied at Fontainebleau, earning an MBA from INSEAD, and spent time in Madrid as the CEO of the Spanish branch. After 10 years with Yves Saint Laurent, he was recruited by 3 Suisses as Development Manager. This position allowed him to study new technologies, e-commerce and CRM.
