  3. Life before the explosion Life in Pompeii was very progressive, it had indoor running water, a great marketplace, an amphitheater for entertainment, and a structured government. The homes of wealthy citizens show beautiful art work, particularly frescoes (pictures painted on the walls using a specific technique) and a reverence for the local gods or goddesses.

  4. The result of the explosion In 79 AD a composite volcano, Mt. Vesuvius, exploded. It wasn’t like a volcano you normally think of, when it erupted it did not gush out lava, instead it spit out ash and rock, this is what covered Pompeii. The witnesses reported that they saw a large cloud in the air above the volcano and before they knew it, it was down on Pompeii. The ash completely covered the town and no one was aware of what was happening. The ash was about 8 to10 feet high, a very large amount of people died.

  5. Life today, why did they rebuild Pompeii. After the huge explosion of Mt.Vesuvius they decided to rebuild Pompeii. They decided to rebuild Pompeii because it was one of the most important cities in the Roman Empire, and had very fertile soil because of the volcano. These features attracted many tourists.
