Plural • A plural word is where we have more than 1 thing. • Singular = 1 • Plural = More than 1
Watch Out – Rules! • There are lots of rules when changing words from singular to plural. • BE CAREFUL! • We are going to look at just two of the rules. • LISTENING?
Adding ‘s’ • For most words we just add ‘s’ to the end of it to change it into a plural. • one apple three apples • desk → desks month → months • book → books train → trains • pen → pens name → names
Adding ‘es’ • For others we need to add ‘es’ to change it to a plural. • one brush two brushes • box → boxes dish → dishes • glass → glasses quiz → quizes
Rule! • If the word ends with a long s sound or a hiss sound like; • sh • ch • ss • then add ‘es’ • - s • - x • - z
