2001-2002 RAP Goals • Goal 1- Students will be able to differentiate between credible vs. non-credible information. • Goal 2-Through a variety of school initiatives, students, parents, and staff will become involved in promoting and establishing a positive school culture and environment.
Goal 1 Information • Actions • Information Center Orientation will be given to a minimum of 80% of the student population during integrated class research projects • No fewer than 3 PSAs (Public Service Announcements) will be created regarding credible vs non-credible information and presented via RTV (these PSAs will be created by different groups, i.e. TLC classes, English classes, Social Studies Classes, etc.) • Throughout the school year & with the assistance of the Media Center Specialist, Computer Science teachers, & TLC class, faculty members will integrate technology into at least two lessons that analyze, interpret and communicate data • Providing continuity between years • Technology as tool for implementation • Analyze, Interpret & Communicate as methods for achieving goal
Implementation update • Implementation • All classes coming to the Information center have been given a briefing on the three elements of Information Retrieval: • Accurate searching (using Boolean search operators, etc.) • Analyzing the credibility of a source (both print and non-print) • Accurate citation of sources • Approximately 40% of classes have come to date to the IC (see schedule book for confirmation) • We anticipate approximately 75-80% of classes coming by the end of the year • SY 00-01, approximately 65-70% of classes utilized the Information Center • Approximately 70% of these classes utilized technology within the IC
Implementation (cont.) • The RTV staff has created one PSA. • A second PSA is being created based upon work from the photography classes. • Pretest was given November 14th to all seminars -- see the results • Teachers have begun turning in lesson implementation forms -- see samples
Measures of Success Improved critical thinking skills measured by pre- and post-testing during seminar classes. Data collection includes, but is not limited to: • Teacher Lesson Action Plans • Information Center schedule book • Information Specialist teaching log • TLC Class Journals (random samples from teaching experiences) • Terra Nova Scores • 10th grade PSAT scores • Writing Assessment scores
Goal 2 Information • Establish a Student Leadership Team by taking one student from each seminar and have them meet and come up with ideas to improve school culture. • Classes, clubs sponsor activities to promote positive school environment (as Street Law class sponsoring Harassment briefings.)
