  1. Liberty Middle School Small Learning Community

  2. Our Mission • Is to ensure that all students especially those in the “Academic Middle” succeed in rigorous courses, participate in college prep activities, and become responsible participants in our democratic society.

  3. Small Learning Community • Engages students in meta-cognitive processes of analysis and evaluation of learning through effective methodologies of learning strategies called • WICOR • Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading

  4. Small Learning Community • Will prepare your child to enroll in rigorous honors and AP Courses in high school. • Students are expected to take at least one Honors Class at the high school.

  5. Students will • Learn special note taking system, aimed at aiding retention of information and easy review of the information learned. • Learn inquiry strategies for self analysis using Bloom’s Taxonomy. • Learn team building strategies

  6. Students will • Learn organizational strategies to maintain notes and binders • Have a special binder to help aid in organization. • Monthly advisory lessons, Setting goals, study skills, and collaboration activities. • Student portal access

  7. Schedule • SLC students are scheduled together for ELA, Science, Social Studies, and Advisory. • World Language, Math, Related Arts vary.

  8. 9th Grade • At least one Honors Class • Apply for 9th Grade AVID (Optional) • Application, Interview, AVID Elective

  9. Pizza Party • Honor Roll first Marking Period • A’s and B’s. • (Build Resume) Example Big Brother Program sponsored by the West Orange Recreation Department
