Classification of Phonemes (2) • Diphthongs • Voiced glides uttered in a single breath impulse; some are blends of two vowels; begins with one sound and ends with another; a change in vowel resonance – • All vowels and diphthongs, unless intentionally whispered, are VOICED (produced with vocalization -- vibration of the vocal cords) • Consonants can be voiced or unvoiced (with or without vocalization – vibration of vocal cords)
