What is Camtasia? • Camtasia is a screen video capturing, editing, and producing program • The user can define what they want captured: • part of the screen • the whole screen • audio from a microphone • system audio • webcam video and audio • Can be produced in many different file formats • Camtasia Studio is the PC version • Camtasia Mac is the Mac version

  4. Price • Camtasia Studio from TechSmith’s site is $299; there is an educational version on the site for $179 • Camtasia Mac from the TechSmith’s site is $99

Recording the Screen • Knowing ahead of time is best • Widescreen (16:9) • Web/iPad- 640 x 360 • HD/YouTube- 1280 x 720 • Standard (4:3) • Web- 640 x 480 • Full Screen- 800 x 600 • Other • iPhone/iTouch- 480 x 320 (3:2) • If you aren’t sure, bigger is better • Better still is bigger with the same ratio • Keep dimensions divisible by 4, this improves quality

  6. Recording a PowerPoint • Could use Record the Screen to record my PowerPoint • Would lose: • Transitions • Animations • Sounds • Easy Hyperlinking • Use Record PowerPoint instead • My complaints with it • No Timer • “No Cursor Data”

  10. Jing • Jing is a free stripped down version of Camtasia • Only allows up to 5 minutes of recording • You can’t make any edits • Video is saved as a .flv • Jing Pro no longer offered
