  2. OUTLINE OF PAPER Introduction Globalization Globalized & Internationalized Education Being Globally Competitive Features of an Internationalized Education System How The Philippines can become more “Internationalized”?

GLOBALIZATION To meet the challenges of globalization, it would in fact appear necessary to prepare individuals for a workplace where responsibilities are constantly changing, where vertical management is replaced by networking, where information passes through multiple and informal channels, where initiative-taking is more important than obedience, and where strategies are especially complex because of the expansion of markets beyond national borders (Jacques Hallak, Fmr Asst D-G of Education, UNESCO)

Educators need to prepare individuals for a workplace where responsibilities are constantly changing, (it means, therefore, that education must help individuals to perform tasks for which they were not originally trained and to be able to adapt) where vertical management is replaced by networking. (it means, therefore, that education must help individuals to prepare for a non-linear career path, and to learn to work in teams that must have a common goal)

Educators need to prepare individuals for a workplace where information passes through multiple and informal channels (it means, therefore, that education must help individuals to use information independently and to be able to evaluate it as valid or wrong) where initiative-taking is more important than obedience (it means, therefore, that education must help individuals to develop a capacity for improvisation as well as creativity)

Educators need to prepare individuals for a workplace where strategies are especially complex because of the expansion of markets beyond national borders (it means, therefore, that education must help individuals to lay the basis of complex thinking linked to different cultures through international links)

Globalization is the context of economic and academic trends that are part of the reality of the 21st century. Internationalization includes the policies and practices undertaken by academic systems and institutions—and even individuals—to cope with the global academic environment’.

  10. Internationalization of Education Internationalization of education includes the policies and practices undertaken by your national higher education system, by your own academic systems and your own institutions to introduce international dimensions and understandings to it.
