Godliness Often Misconstrued • Some think that gain is godliness • 1 Timothy 6:4-54 he is puffed up, knowing nothing, but doting about questionings and disputes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmising, 5 wrangling of men corrupted in mind and bereft of the truth, supposing that godliness is a way of gain.

  13. Godliness Often Misconstrued • Some practice an outward form of godliness • 2 Timothy 3:5Holding a form of godliness, but having denied the power therefore. From these also turn away.

Results of Godliness • Godliness prepares us for the life to come • 1 Timothy 4:8For bodily exercise is profitable for a little; but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life which now is, and of that which is to come. “Be content with what you have, never with what you are.”

CONCLUSION • Pray for conditions favorable to practicing godliness • 1 Timothy 2:1-31 I exhort therefore, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings, be made for all men; 2 for kings and all that are in high place; that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and gravity. 3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour.

  19. CONCLUSION • Godly people are set apart for the Lord • Psalms 4:3But know that Jehovah hath set apart for himself him that is godly: Jehovah will hear when I call unto him.

CONCLUSION • Good works become professors of godliness • 1 Timothy 2:9-109 In like manner, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shame fastness and sobriety; not with braided hair, and gold or pearls or costly raiment; 10 but, which becomes women professing godliness, through good works.

  21. CONCLUSION • Must strive to be like Him – to be with Him in eternity! • 1 John 3:2-32 Beloved, now are we children of God, and it is not yet made manifest what we shall be. We know that, if he shall be manifested, we shall be like him; for we shall see him even as he is. 3 And every one that hath this hope set on him purifies himself, even as he is pure.
