TRANSIENT MODULE APPLICATION OFFSHORE FIREWATER SYSTEMNOWROOZ OFFSHORE PLATFORM COMPLEX, IRAN
TRANSIENT MODULE APPLICATION OFFSHORE FIREWATER SYSTEMNOWROOZ OFFSHORE PLATFORM COMPLEX, IRAN KEY POINTS • Operator Is Shell, In Offshore Iran • Two Sister Platform Complexes – Soroosh (3 Platforms) And Nowrooz (2 Platforms) • The Firewater Ringmain Is Made Of GRP Pipes • Pressure Controlled Deluge Valves Were Used • Bridge Connection Between The Platforms. (So There Is Large Volume)
TRANSIENT MODULE APPLICATION OFFSHORE FIREWATER SYSTEMNOWROOZ OFFSHORE PLATFORM COMPLEX, IRAN OBJECTIVES • To calculate the maximum pressure surges and check if they are within the limit – deluge valve closure, deluge valve opening and pump trip • Check the need for vacuum breakers, their position and sizes • Check stability of the control valve • Calculate hydraulic transient forces for pipe stress analysis, and positioning pipe supports.
TRANSIENT MODULE APPLICATION OFFSHORE FIREWATER SYSTEMNOWROOZ OFFSHORE PLATFORM COMPLEX, IRAN POINTS OF SPECIAL INTEREST • Elevation Changes in Offshore Platforms often cause large pressure surges due to cavity formation. Vacuum breakers are used to eliminate them. • In this system, the large capacity of the bridge connection between the platforms combined with the elasticity of GRP material was instrumental in reducing the pressure surge. GRP is generally thought to be bad for pressure surge but in this case it was good.
