London Councils’ residents poll • Aimed to examine: • Residents’ level of awareness of who or which organisations are responsible for walking and cycling policies in London. • What measures would encourage them to walk and cycle more. • 1000 people surveyed in June 2013
Who is responsible for walking and cycling policies in London? While residents recognise the role that London boroughs play in deciding and implementing walking and cycling policies, the Mayor has higher recognition, especially for cycling policies.
Who is responsible for walking and cycling policies in London? A higher proportion of respondents from outer London thought boroughs were responsible for both walking and cycling.
Measures to encourage walking and cycling • For walking • Older people (+45) would like better pavements, compared with younger people • For cycling • Those working (commuting) value road safety, cycling infrastructure and a safer environment more than residents not working
