Discriminatory Practicesinclude Decisions for: Based Upon: Rather than based upon skills, qualifications and experience.
Defined as Unequal, unfair treatment, whether intentional or not, based on: Race, religion, gender, disability, marital/family status, sexual orientation, source of income, age, ancestry or place of origin The effects are negative & often lead to harassment.
Harassment is defined as: Persistent & unwanted inappropriate behavior which disturbs or makes another individual uncomfortable, embarrassed, isolated or angry
Harassment is a form of employment discrimination that violates laws, such as
Harassment can be in the form ofbut is not limited to: Racial/ gender slurs Offensive language Jokes Profanity Innuendos Touching Name calling Physical assaults/ threats Intimidating or slighting
Requests for sexual favors/dates Indecent exposure Unwelcome sexual advances Sexual Materials Offering employment, wage increases, promotion based upon sexual reference Offensive, derogatory or demeaning remarks Use of crude names or name calling Jokes Touching or violating someone’s personal space Any other unwelcome physical, verbal or written conduct Prohibited Conduct
What if a complaint is made to you, or you have knowledge of harassment or discrimination: • As a manager you must take it seriously. You must report it to Human Resources immediately (This takes the responsibility of investigating off of you and puts it in the hands of your HR Representative) • Any knowledge you may have pertaining to acts of harassment or discrimination, if not reported, puts our employees at a greater risk and our companies at risk for a lawsuit • As a manager any knowledge you have should not be discussed outside of HR and must be kept confidential
Supervisors & Managers, Be Aware • Did you know your participation in, or initiation of inappropriate comments, jokes, or e-mails can legally bind our companies? • The manager sets the tone; Your role as a leader in our organization sets the standard for your employees to follow. Therefore, it is very important to set a good example. Be mindful of what you say and do. You are a representative of our Companies ! Follow the “Golden Rule”
