Congratulations to One of Our Own • Dr. Phyllis T. Pacilli from Boca Raton Community High was selected for the LEGO Education Advisory Panel (LEAP). She will represent grades K-12, and will collaborate with LEGO Education to develop classroom solutions and curriculum that elevate science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) concepts
Florida Engineering Society FES would like to assist your SECME club. If you would like a volunteer, sign the form at the sign-in desk. An FES engineer will attend a SECME meeting to present an engineering-based lesson to complement your SECME program. Contact Jim Kunard (District email)

Palm Beach County Specifically For FCAT SSS Reading The mean proportion of a year’s growth for the middle school Program group was substantially better than its comparison group, while the elementary and high school Program groups were statistically the same as their comparison groups (see Table 4a). The percent of proficient students for the elementary, middle, and high school Program groups was statistically the same as their comparison groups (see Table 4b).
FCAT SSS Mathematics The mean proportion of a year’s growth for the middle school Program group was moderately better than its comparison group; the elementary school Program group was slightly better than its comparison group; and the high school Program group performed statistically the same as its comparison group (see Table 5a). The percent of proficient students for the elementary and high school Program groups were slightly better that their comparison groups, while the middle school Program group was statistically the same as its comparison group (see Table 5b).
FCAT SSS Science The percent of proficient students for the elementary and high school Program groups was moderately better than their comparison groups (see Table 6).

SECME FY 12 Theme SECME: Plan It. Build It. Live it!
SCHOOL DISTRICT OF PALM BEACH COUNTY RESPONSIBILITIES OF SECME SCHOOL COORDINATORS 2010-2011 SCHOOL YEAR Form an after-school SECME club or incorporate SECME activities into existing curriculum. Prepare students for FCAT Science using SECME activities. Have students develop and maintain portfolios. Obtain guest speakers/role models to serve as mentors for students. Provide opportunities for students to learn about careers in science, mathematics, engineering, and technology. Provide opportunities for parental involvement. Market your school's SECME program. Coordinate opportunities for student participation in SECME and non-SECME competitions and other hands-on activities (e.g., science/math fair, robotics, etc). Attend regularly scheduled SECME Coordinator Meetings and Design Seminars. Prepare a team of students to participate in either the elementary or the secondary SECME District Olympiad. Arrange transportation to transport students to and from Olympiad. Chaperone students during Olympiad. Submit appropriate forms and reports (e.g., Longitudinal Data Report, Annual Summary Report, Senior Survey) to the SECME National Office. Submit appropriate forms and reports (i.e., Membership Form, Implementation Plan with activity calendar and club attendance, Olympiad Registration Form) to the SECME District Coordinator. High School Coordinators - share information about scholarship opportunities with all SECME students. Stipend eligibility is contingent on: First semester stipend: • Submission of the Implementation Plan including a year-long calendar of events and club attendance (include student ID #’s) by December 10, 2010. • Registration of your program with the SECME National Office (done online) by December 10, 2010. • Submit Olympiad registration materials (by Jan 13th for Elementary and Jan 27th for Secondary). Second semester stipend: • Attend at least 3 of the 4 SECME Coordinators’ Meetings (If you cannot attend, another representative from your school must attend.) • Olympiad participation by yourself and team (see calendar for dates) • Submission of ALL qualified projects required for competition (see survival guide) • Submission of End of Year Report including student attendance and student ID numbers. • Facilitate end of year student surveys with national office. • Revised 8/10/2010 SECME Coordinator Responsibilities

2011 Olympiads • The Elementary Olympiad will take place on February 11th at Santaluces High School from 8:00 am – 3:30 pm. • The Secondary Olympiad will take place on February 25th at Santaluces High School 8:00 am – 3:30 pm.
FAU SECME Scholarships Awards of $3,000 per year are available to a limited number of students from SECME High Schools in Palm Beach county for the 2009-2010 academic year. Selection Criteria: Students must meet the academic requirements for admission into FAU and have participated in the SECME program in their high school. Minimum score of 1000 on the SAT-I or a 21 on the ACT. NOTE: This scholarship is renewable for up to four years based on academic requirements.
