Projects • Document Repository Program(s) Evolution • Application Portfolio • PlanningIT • PlanningIT • Compliance Reports • Strategic Planning • SharePoint • Project Site • Document Repository • CISM • Web Form Creation
Document Repository Program(s) Evolution • Daimler created a program (Application Portfolio) ~10 years ago to keep track of information relating to applications created and managed within DTNA • Application Owner • Affected/Related Systems (if any changes are made) • Security Compliance Information (For SOX relevancy and internal security compliance) • Unique Program ID • Time Codes (Used to keep a record of time spent on projects, Time = Money)
Document Repository Program(s) Evolution, cont. • Parent company (Daimler AG) implemented their own repository (Planning IT) • PlanningIT holds most of the same information • Global use of PlanningIT across all subsidiaries necessitates that all information be categorized and tracked in a similar fashion • Decision must be made about what to do with two repositories • Classifications of some specific applications do not match exactly with either methodology • Will we use both and maintain repeated data?
PlanningIT Compliance Reports • QS reports are SQL Queries that search for specific information • Examples: • Applications that do not have a name • No start date/end date • No defined Business Support • The reports respond with a list of applications that lack what information was being queried • The reports search many tables that hold all information about applications • Germany runs monthly reports, must be within 2% • I run the reports weekly and tracks any changes to applications on the reports
PlanningIT Strategic Planning • Strategic Planning is looking forward at our application landscape planning within Daimler • Needed to collect information from each ITBM • I prepared spreadsheets containing each ITBMs applications, places to enter the planning information, and relationships to the applications that support each applications for reference • Received all information and, after receiving 14 hours of training to have write access, entered all information into PlanningIT
SharePoint • Tasked with creating a custom SharePoint site • Created custom pages to keep track of all information pertaining to each DTNA Applications • Can contain documents • Links to other places or sites • People in charge of the applications • Learned about versioning, user permissions
Web Form Creation Within CISM (Ticketing System) • CISM is a ticketing system that tracks problems and solutions with users and applications across all of Daimler’s entities • Can use an Online Web form to create a automated CISM ticket • Web form has customizable questions and question types • Drop down • Text box • Text area, etc. • Can use HTML to customize web forms • Included an HTML table to help users with answering questions
Beneficial Courses • ACTG 378 • Enabled thinking about a problem, such as the Document repositories, on all angles. Deciding which is best for the users while still accomplishing all goals from Germany and DTNA. • BA 371 and 372 • HTML Programming language was useful for customizing Web Forms (formatting and inserting tables) • Figuring out the end goal of what is needed and have your solution lead to it
Overall Impressions • Overwhelming when first started • Acronyms are a different language • Sheer size of the company • Corporate structure – no one person knows everything, everyone is an expert at what they do • Met some very determined people who care about their job and for making everything easier for the end user • Big companies are SLOW to change • Still using XP, upgrading to Windows 7 early next year
