  2. High School Teachers and other school staff members are responsible for providing students with support services they need. College You are responsible for requesting assistance and advice when you need it. Responsibility

  3. High School 6 hours per day 180 total days 1,080 hours each year College 12-15 hours per week (full time is 12 or more credit hours). 16 week per Semester or 10 weeks per Quarter. 360-450 hours per year. Class Time

  4. High School Frequent Quizzes Weekly tests or at the end of a chapter. College Fewer tests, about one test per month. Tests will cover more material. Tests / Exams

  5. High School About 1-3 hours of homework/studying per day. College About 3-5 hours of homework/studying each day. Study at least 2 hours for every hour spent in class. Study Time

  6. High School Information is provided mostly through in-class resources (classroom discussion & assigned reading) College More writing, longer papers or essays. Out-of-class research, mostly done in the library. Knowledge Acquisition

  7. High School Assignment are broken down into step-by-step tasks. College Sometimes you will have to determine how to complete your assignments because some professors give less instructions. Assignments

  9. High School Teachers monitor your progress and are likely to offer clarification when you need it. They take attendance, check your work constantly, briefly lecture, and impart knowledge and facts. College Professor lecture and expect you to acquire knowledge and facts from outside reading and library research. You will have to monitor your own progress and ask for clarification on your own. Teachers

  10. High School Parents are advocates for the students and works with teachers and counselors to assure the their child is being supported academically. College Parental role changes from an advocate to a mentor and works with their child to offer guidance and support. Parental Role

  11. High School Your time is structured by your parents, teachers, and other adults. College You have to decided how to structure your time between school, recreation, and work. You make the decisions about schedules, class attendance, and studying. Freedom

  12. Activity • Look at the similarities and differences from High School to College. • Using the Venn-Diagram, write down 3 differences in the high school and college circles. • Write down 2 similarities between high school and college in the oval space.
