  2. Plate Umpire Responsibility Base Umpire Responsibility Points of Emphasis • Fair / Foul calls • Touch of base • Catch / No-catch calls • Tag up • Strike / Balls • Help PU with deadball calls Plate umpire has to move with every pitch Base umpire may have to cover call at 3rd HUSTLE

  3. Between 1st and 2nd base Starting Position BU behind the 2nd baseman far enough to avoid interfering with the fielder 2ND Holding Area PU Behind the catcher

  4. Button-hook inside to see BR touch 1st base Base hit or Fly ball to the outfield BU Be prepared to take BR all the way to 3rd base BU BR PU moves to the pitching plate PU

  5. Make call on BR Ground ball to the infield BU PU down foul line PU

  6. BU makes call on BR Ground ball to the infield with runner on 2nd BU R1 PU moves up foul line to make call on play at 3rd PU

  7. BU button-hooks in to make call on BR Fly Ball Coverage BU PU moves up foul line to get best angle. PU PU is responsible for catch / no-catch.

  8. BU goes out on fly ball BU takes fly ball BU PU moves to holding Area PU has all touches of bases PU has all call on runners PU

  9. BU has tag-up at 1st and 2nd Fly ball to LF with runners on 1st and 2nd BU R2 R1 PU has fair/foul PU has catch / no-catch PU

  10. BU has tag-up at 2nd and 3rd Fly ball to RF with runners on 1st, 2nd and 3rd BU R2 R1 R3 PU has fair/foul PU has catch / no-catch PU PU tag-up at 1st
