Uglies • Setting: 300 years in the future— • Uglyville—children live here after leaving their parents to attend school and await the operation • New Pretty Town—city for New Pretties to have fun and enjoy parties until they decide on a career path • The Smoke—an area outside the city filled with radical teens who want to keep their own faces/bodies

Major Characters • Tally Youngblood—main protagonist; she’s been brainwashed to believe that being Pretty is the most one can aspire to • Peris—Tally’s friend who is Pretty before her • Shay—befriends Tally and does not want to become a Pretty • Dr. Cable—commander of a secret government agency • David—born and raised in the wild
