  2. Need to be green! Not to mention the file servers, UNIX workstations, etc…

  3. Initial Thought #1 GreenServer Keepalive messages? Periodic signals with predictable pattern? Useful application data? Determine if a machine is suitable to be forced to sleep by looking at its outgoing traffic. Who monitor it? The client or the GreenServer? It is up to you!

  4. Initial Thought #2 GreenServer WOL Determine if a machine is suitable to wake up by looking at the incoming traffic. Who monitor it? Of course, the GreenServer! How? Using the WoL (Wake-on-LAN).

  5. Techniques? Traffic analysis Forging Traffic Sequence Number Synchronization Traffic Replay (after WoL)

  6. Deployment? NAT –basedGreenServer Proxy –basedGreenServer Gratuitous ARP
