Did you know? …people who are active typically feel better, accomplish more and live longer. …you need to walk for 2 hours at a moderate pace to burn off one 20 ounce soda.
Why aren’t we active? • Neighborhoods are not safe. • More technology, too distracted. • Too much homework, other obligations. • It’s too much trouble.

How do I know … How much activity do I need? • Children – 60 minutes per day • Adults — minimum of 30 minutes per day
What’s an easy way to be active? • Park farther away at the store. • Take the stairs in buildings. • Do stepping or knee bends while you brush your teeth. You just got 10 minutes of exercise!
What’s an easy way to be active? • When you are talking on your cell phone, walk while you talk: around the house, the yard or while you do chores. NO talking while crossing streets! You can get 20 minutes, easy!
What’s an easy way to be active? • At work, take a 15 minute break and walk around the outside of your building, around the block or up and down the street. Don’t forget to leave a pair of comfortable shoes at work!
What’s an easy way to be active? • If you ride the bus, get off one stop early and walk the rest of the way. • If you are shopping, walk the entire mall or shopping center. There’s another 10 minutes!
What’s an easy way to be active? • Find a radio station with music you like and give yourself a break. Dance to the music for 10 minutes, by yourself or with your kids. If you did these five steps, you could have over an hour of physical activity.
Schedule the Time So You Take the Time • Put your planned activity time on your calendar • If you have to skip, be sure and reschedule! • Find the time that works for you and your family.
How about at school… • Ask your kid about Get UR 60! • Find out if your school has open gym for students before or during school.
Are your Kids Active at School? • Does your school have recess? • Are kids active at least half the time they are in PE? • Do teachers use activity breaks during class?
Be a good role model! • Let your kids see you being active. • Try bowling, biking or just walk. • Tell them how important being active is to their bodies.
