What is IP Telephony? • Translates voice conversations into data packets and transports over data network (i.e. NUSNET) using Internet Protocol (IP) – i.e. VoIP. IP Telephony is VOIP in the Enterprise (NUS). Current Singtel PhoneNet Service New Campus IP Telephony Service

Project Goals To successfully upgrade PhoneNet to an advanced IP Communications platform • Key Considerations • Minimal disruption to existing voice service • Enhanced communications features at same or lower costs as compared to PhoneNet • Increased productivity and mobility
How We Are Affected • New prefix “6516” allocated • All extensions preserved • Seamless migration to new prefix • “6516” and “6874” concurrently available for 10 months (Sept 2005 to June 2006) • Called Number Announcement for “6874” in May & June 2006 • Four-digit dialing across extensions with PhoneNet and IP Phones • Fax, direct lines & non “6874” phones not upgraded • Availability of analogue lines for backup

User and Site Preparation • Detailed Planning with Dept Phone Admin • Phone & Staff ID listing, seating plan • Customised settings • Site readiness assessment • Expert support team (in conjunction with ITCare) • User Starter Kit • IP Phone & network patch cord with label, connectivity diagram • Starter guide, links to IPTel portal and support • User preparation (clear voice mail, cancel call forwarding, clear table space, close all applications, etc) • PhoneNet phones will be removed

Training • General user training conducted during term break from 19-23 Sept 2005 • Secretaries and Phone Admin training conducted 1-2 weeks prior to department upgrade • Online E-learning & User Guides available
Price Plans and Charges • No increase in departmental phone costs • All installation and setup charges waived during upgrade • Singtel billing terminate end June 2006 • IPTel billing commences July 2006 • Price Plan equivalent to prevailing PhoneNet charges • All IPTel equipment provided on subscription basis. No equipment purchase required • Provisions catered for shared lines where applicable
