  2. Preservation of cultural relics Paper-based Cultural Properties

  3. Laser stain removal of fungus-induced stains on paper-based cultural relics • Aim of work The aim of this study is to investigate the feasibility of mouldy paper removed by using Nd-YAG (neodymium-YAG)laser. Artificial stained paper prepared from infesting with fungi was removed by laser treatments, in order to find out the suitable treated condition.

  4. Results ◎To running at 1064 nm of laser wavelength obtained superior cleaning, especially for the results to the black and /or darken fungal stains. ◎The Nd-YAG laser treated specimens exhibited superior improvements of brightness in the order of 10Hz with 10pulses,10Hz with 5pulses,10Hz with 1puls. ◎After removal of fungal stains on the surface of paper specimens, the IR absorbance spectra represent the amino acid of fungi and carbonyl group at 1550 cm-1 and 1650 cm-1 respectively, were disappeared or decreased obviously.

  5. Conclusions 1.The Nd-YAG laser treated specimens exhibited superior improvements ofbrightness after removal of fungal stains on the surface of paper specimens. 2. No significant difference was detected on the zero span strength of laser treated papers. 3.The Nd-YAG laser can be a viable alternative conservation medium for cleaning of paper- based of artifacts and archives.
