  4. Destitute adj.—extremely poor; lacking necessities like food and shelter After losing his job, the once successful businessman found himself destitute and living on the streets.

  5. Enigma noun—a puzzling or seemingly inexplicable situation or person The man was a total enigma; he showed up out of nowhere, spoke to no one, and made us feel uncomfortable.
