  2. Before we Begin…Reflection • Self (in notes) • “If you had the opportunity to learn the answers to 3 major questions about life, what would they be? WHY? • Discuss in groups of 2 or 3 • Share group findings with class

Background and…why? • Principal attribute of human nature is curiosity • For organisms that comprehend so much we are born understanding very little. • However, there are some very impt ?s that are difficult to answer • Why is everything here? • What is the purpose of existence? • What happens after we die • Response to such questions forms the basis of many religious models of existence

  4. Therefore…. • Ultimate questions are the attempts of human beings to make sense of human nature and existence • (They are also the 1st step to both developing your own appreciation of existence and building up empathy with the religious view of others)

  5. So then what is an Ultimate Question? • A question that, if answered would help you understand the nature of life and living. • They are typically concerned with • The puzzle of existence • The nature of right and wrong • Who we really are

  6. UQ Activity • You and your group will receive sample ?s • Decide whether or not you think each question belongs in the category of UQ and WHY (discuss thoughts and reasons in groups) • It is your task to make your case as to which questions deserve this title
