Reinforcing Moves Western Border Formations • XI CORPS (Peshawar) Northern Areas (Opp Kargil) Opp Poonch Opp Akhnur • XII CORPS (Quetta) To Reinforce V Corps and form ARS Reinforce defences and gap between XXXI and V Corps Hold main defences between Hyderabad and Chor
Strengths of PAK Orbat • Switching of forces possible through internal lines of communication. • Reserves available from Western border for defensive tasks. • Strong Canal line/ fixed defences in tiers with good depth based on water obstacles. • Fmns based in AOR for ease of trg, Op tasks, manning defences rapidly.
Weaknesses of PAK Orbat • No intervening Fmn HQ between GHQ and Corps. • How will GHQ control and co-ordinate 9 x corps HQ during war? • No Army Gp HQ because of insecurity of Army Chief and dictatorial mindest. • Most Corps weak in strength, no reserves, lack of flexibility. • Strike Corps/Army Reserves weak, particularly ARS. • Lack of mobile SHORADs AD systems/gun msl platforms. • Poor, effete, morally corrupt senior leadership.
