  2. Introduction We hope to give you an insight of what is involved in being a 4th year medical student at Salford Royal……. Produced by Mike Bold & Keshi Minett

Introduction to year 4 M&M – Mind and Movement Split in to 2 modules F&C – Families and Children Each module last for 14 weeks Mind and Movement is split into three four week blocks with one week of Basic Skills Training Families and Children is split into two seven week blocks For both modules OSCE’s are held in the final week

  4. Mind & Movement Module • M&M is split into 3 four week blocks Psychiatry Orthopaedics & Rheumatology Neurology

  5. Year 4 First week of Mind & Movement =Basic Skills Course During this time you will: Be introduced tokey concepts of the module Be introduced to and try new examination techniques

  6. Psychiatry • Delivered by Greater Manchester West Mental Health Trusts Students are split into 3 groups based at Salford, Trafford & Bolton for clinical teaching, however, students will be expected to travel to other units PBL and Lectures are delivered weekly at Salford

  7. Orthopaedics & Rheumatology • Based mainly at Salford Royal (some students will attend Rheumatology teaching at Trafford) Teaching will be include PBL, Expert Patient, lectures, clinical conferences and anatomy teaching sessions

  8. Neurology • Based at Salford Royal (SRFT provides Neurological services for the whole of Greater Manchester) Teaching will include PBL, Expert Patient, Teaching Clinics, lectures and ward based bedside teaching

  9. Families and Children Module • Two seven week blocks: Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Paediatrics O&G – Delivered at Salford, Blackburn, Bolton & Wigan Paediatrics – Delivered at Blackburn, Bolton, RMCH & Wigan First day of each block will be an introduction of key elements delivered at either Salford or RMCH

  10. You will also have…. 2 SSCs → Each 3 weeks long 1 SSC after each OSCE. These give you the chance to do something you’re interested in, practice your skills and learn even more!

  11. 1 weeks Basic Skills Week M&M/F&C Module 3 12 weeks OSCE SSC 5 3 weeks Christmas is 2 weeks long Christmas 1 weeks Basic Skills Week Progress Test 12 weeks M&M/F&C Module 4 OSCE SSC 6 3 weeks Easter is 1 week Easter Project Option and Progress Test 11 weeks

  12. EXAMS! Winter Progress Test: Mid JanuaryWinter OSCE: End of November Summer Progress Test: Mid May Summer OSCE: Early April

  13. District General Hospitals Wigan Bolton

  14. District General Hospitals Blackburn Trafford

  15. Teaching Hospital RMCH

  16. District General Hospitals You will be sent to a DGH during your F&C module. It will be for 7 or 14 weeks dependent upon placement Free accommodation (limited numbers)

  17. Project Option • A chance to do an in depth study on a subject of personal interest • Finished with a short presentation to a small group of consultants and your peers
