WHAT DOES “CLASSIFY” MEAN? • Classify means “to put or be in a particular class or group” • Restaurants are classified into groups based on the following; • Concept • How the food is prepared and served • Service • Pricing
Classifying Restaurants There are various types of restaurants which are commonly classified into the following groups; • Fast Food • Fast Casual Dining • Cafes • Pubs • Casual Dining • Buffet • Fine Dining
Fast Food • Quick Service • Counter Service • Street Vendors • Franchises • Price is cheaper than Fast Casual Food
Fast Casual • Quick Service • Counter Service no Table Service • Provide paper plates and plastic cutlery • Price is higher than fast food but cheaper than casual dining
Cafes • Counter Service & Table Service. (Counter Service to place your order and the waiters will serve food and drink to the table) • Hot drinks are the main selling items e.g. Coffee and Teas • Cafes provide a limited selection of Cold & Hot Foods, Sandwiches and Pastries • Prices are moderate
Pubs • Counter and Table Service (Counter Service to place your order and the waiters will serve food and drink to the table) • Primarily serve Drinks mostly beers, Secondary is Food which is simple foods such as burgers, fish and chips, steak and chips. • Prices are moderate
Casual Dining • Provide Table Service • Provide Food and Drinks Menu • Prices are moderate- more than Fast Casual Dining but less than Fine Dining Restaurants
Buffet • Self Service • Drinks Menu and Drink Service Provided • Prices are moderate- more than Fast Casual Dining but less than Fine Dining Restaurants
Fine Dining • Provide Full Service • Well Trained Staff (Professional) • Provide good quality foods and wines • Prices are on the high end • Dress Codes apply E.g. Men- Collared Shirt, long pants (no jeans), closed shoes Women- Casual Elegant (no jeans)
