What are the characteristics of a good harbor for settlers? 2. If NC trade only went to SC and VA, how did that affect NC's development?
Warm - Up Answers 1. North Carolina was not a great maritime center because its coastal waters were shallow and shifting. 2. Few settlers cam from abroad directly to NC because the colony has so few good harbors. 3. Because of the lack of deepwater ports, much of NC's produce had to be sold in other colonies.

What is it? Your notebook is the tool for your success in social studies It allows you to keep track of handouts, homework, classwork, and objectives for a day in an organized way
Daily Pages Your Notebook needs to be updated daily You should have an essential question, RAP, WIO, and homework written down for each date Also a title, date, and a page number should be written on each page
Table of Contents A Table of contents need to be the first five pages in your notebook They contain the page number in the left margin And the Title of Pages in the body
Page Numbers The Page number needs to be in the bottom left hand corner on the left side of the page. It should be in a large print so it is easy to see while flipping through pages for a specific page. The Page number needs to be in the bottom right hand corner on the right side of the page. It should still be in a large print. Page Numbers should be on every page. They will be counted on a notebook check. That means, if there is NO page number, you’ll get points taken off. 66 67
Dates 8-25-09A 8-25-09A The Dates ALWAYS need to be on EVERY PAGE!! The Date goes on the left corner if your writing it on the left side of the page. The Dates ALWAYS need to be on EVERY PAGE!! It always is written on the right side, and is under the title. Most of the time an essential question will be different each day. IF NO ESSENTIAL QUESTION POINTS WILL BE TAKEN OFF OF A NOTEBOOK CHECK! Essential Question: Do you know where to write the essential question? The essential question should always be writen down under the title on the RIGHT SIDE. 66 67

The Perfect Piece The Perfect piece of tape should be 1 inch long… NOT 1 FOOT, 1 INCH!!! It should look like this:

Where to put in the notebook Make Sure it is center with margins Also make sure it doesn’t stick out of the notebook Make Sure if it classwork, tape it on the Essential Question page, Homework and RAPS on the left side page

When your name is called, Pick up a book from the front of the class. Return to your seat and continue working on your license plate
