FTS Testing: Introduction Chris Boone Test Readiness Review January 29, 2003
What We Know • Acceptance tests by ABB Bomem --Functionality --Resolution, stability • Acceptance/verification tests at the subsystem level for some components
Science Team Testing (FTS) • Instrument level testing of those components descoped by ABB Bomem due to compressed test schedule (imagers, suntracker). • Characterization of instrument behaviour under various conditions (particularly with changing instrument and detector temperature). • Keep in mind potential impacts on instrument performance from shock tests and any changes made by ABB Bomem since previous tests.
“Resolved” Issues • Power Supply jumper wire --Easily resolved, no anticipated impact. • Improper capacitor induced instability in the InSb channel --Change capacitor. At UoT Monitor output for continued instability and for possible new problems arising from the change in electronics.
“Resolved” Issues (continued) • Corner cube coating causes fatal polarization problems for the backup metrology laser for some temperatures. --Swap in uncoated corner cubes. ABB BomemMeasure modulation efficiency, at DFL or at UoT. If at UoT, equipment, personnel, procedure required. UoTSet aside time in test schedule.
Lesson Learned • Detector Contamination --severely impacts performance. --decontamination event(s) may be required, may interrupt FTS test schedule. --schedule major (or contamination-sensitive) tests early or shortly after decontamination. • Contamination of passive cooler could limit the achievable detector temperature.
Major Gaps in Our Knowledge • Performance of passive cooler • Characterization of the suntracker • Imager (all aspects) • Instrumental Line Shape • Performance above 3000 cm-1
