CityMobil Contents • Introduction • Activities • City demonstrations • Other demonstration activities • R&D program • Results CityMobil
Mobility in our cities • Congestion • Pollution • Traffic accidents Resulting in a decreasing quality of living CityMobil
CityMobil Objectives • A more effective and sustainable organization of urban transport • A more rational use of motorized traffic with: • Less congestion • Safer driving • Higher quality of living • Enhanced integration with spatial development By bringing the implementation of automated transport in urban areas a major step forward CityMobil
How do we reach these objectives • 3 large scale implementations of advanced transport systems • A number of showcases and studies into real city applications • An R&D program to support the demonstrations and to address unresolved questions CityMobil
Facts and Figures Project start: May 1, 2006 Project duration: 5 years Coordinator: TNO No. of Partners: 29 Project Budget: 40 million Euros EU funding: 11 million Euros Budget division: About 40% for demo’s About 60% for R&D CityMobil

How do we reach the objectives 3 large scale implementations of advanced transport systems: city demonstrations • Heathrow • Rome • Castellón CityMobil
City Demos: Heathrow Business Car Park • Connects Business Parking with T5 • 3.9 km of single guideway • 21 vehicles • 3 stations • 5min journey time • Traverses 2 rivers and 7 roads • Green belt land • Negotiates aircraft surfaces • Bridges in-ground services • Conforms to T5 architecture • Looks “Intended” Terminal 5 station Terminal 5 CityMobil
City Demos: Heathrow 4 passengers, 450 kg payload, 40km/h, 2kW CityMobil CityMobil Presentation 10
City Demos: Heathrow CityMobil
City Demos: Rome A cybercar system that connects the car park with the entrance of the new Rome Exhibition buildings CityMobil
City Demos: Rome 29 passengers; Max speed: 24 km/h; Obstacle detection systems: laser scanner and bumper switches. CityMobil
City Demos: Rome Legenda CTS track CTS stops North and east CTS stops Control room Depot and maintenance area North entrance East entrance • Track round trip length of 1.617 m; • 11 stops (2 close to the main entrances); • 6 Cybercars (2 in the first phase and 4 later); 10/06/2014 CityMobil CityMobil Presentation 14

CityMobil R&D programme Results of the R&D program so far: Many reports of which most are public Public reports can be found on the CityMobil website • SP 2: Future scenarios • SP 3: Vehicles and technological issues • SP 4: Operational issues • SP 5: Evaluation CityMobil
CityMobil R&D programme SP 2: Future scenarios The first phase of the work is finished. Public reports so far on: • State of the Art • Context and application scenarios • City Application Manual • Predictive strategic models • Certification guidelines • Guidelines for safety, security and privacy • Business case tool CityMobil
CityMobil R&D programme Example of the SP2 results: Certification guidelines CityMobil
CityMobil R&D programme SP 3: Vehicles and technological issues The work is almost finished. Reports so far on: • Design of advanced city cars • Human factors aspects • Driving behaviour in automated and semi-automated vehicles • Obstacle detection needs and products • Navigation in urban environments • Analysis of wireless communication technologies • Demonstrator for platooning of advanced city cars CityMobil
CityMobil R&D programme Example of the SP3 results: Demonstrator for platooning of advanced city cars - 2 prototypes of dual mode vehicles have been realized - The vehicles are electric vehicles with Lithium-ion batteries - In automated mode, the vehicles take over the driving task completely - Example application: return of cars in a car sharing system CityMobil
CityMobil R&D programme SP 4: Operational issues The work is almost finished. Reports so far on: • Solutions for operational management of various automated system options • Service customization • Management strategies for automated transport systems • Integration of automated transport in existing structures CityMobil
CityMobil R&D programme Example of the SP4 results: Solutions for operational management of automated system options CityMobil
CityMobil R&D programme SP 5: Evaluation Results so far: • Evaluation framework CityMobil
Expected CityMobil results Concrete results: • 3 operating demonstration projects • Showcases and possible small demonstrations • City study reports • Reports on R&D topics • Dissemination activities • Exploitation plan CityMobil
Expected CityMobil results General results: • A much better understanding of the possibilities of automated transport systems in cities • An improved acceptance of advanced transport systems among the public as well as among authorities • less legal, administrative, operational and technological barriers for the implementation of advanced urban transport systems CityMobil
