MA EducationSpecial Educational Needs:Current Issues and Concerns 7PE190 • Target Audience • Practitioners with an interest in or responsibility for Special Educational Needs. Student will relate their studies within the module to their own professional situations, and be expected to share their varied experiences with others. • Objectives : • The module traces the recent historical development of provision for children with SEN and examines the extent to which practice has met with expectations to date. • A central feature of the module will be a critical examination of the philosophy of inclusion, with consideration being given to the advantages and disadvantages of its practice. Within the context of this debate, students will cons • SEN as a human rights issue; • the theory and practice of differentiation; • policies and a whole school approach. • Teaching Methods: • Taught sessions • Directed activities • Guided research/reflection • Email and face-to-face tutorials • Assessment: • Participants will be required to evaluate their practice in relation to a development, within their own institution, in an area related to SEN introduced in the taught sessions.
