ILEAD Utah addresses the need to expand the leadership abilities of librarians and increase ability to use participatory technology to effectively engage their community.
ILEAD U Model • Participants & Mentors • Competitive application: 5 members representing different types of libraries in a geographic area. • 8 Project Teams per Cohort; 2 Cohorts. • 2 Mentors per Cohort Group. • Groups come together for three-training sessions to learn, select and implement a Web 2.0 project.
We Need You! • Promotion and encouragement of emerging leaders • Support of time both during sessions and between sessions • Ideas and suggestions for course content • Suggestions for great instructors—particularly the hidden experts in your own libraries

Steering Committee • Review applications and select Project teams. • Review applications and select Mentors. • Suggest instructors • ULA, UALC, UELMA, and public libraries suggest committee members
Instructor Corps • Instructors responsible for developing cohesive, complete curriculum, focusing on: • Strategic leadership • Community needs assessment skills • Meaningful applications of technological solutions • Opportunity to experience new and unfamiliar technologies • R. Mentors • One mentor per project team. • Keep participants motivated. • Provide guidance and advice.
Project Teams • Regional or statewide in nature. • Teams should be informed of needs of their user community. • Individuals should have capacity for leadership or identified as a future library leader. • Willingness to try essential; technological competence helpful. • MLS not required.
Project Timeline • October 1 • Applications available • November 1 • National Day of Application, presented through Adobe Connect • Individuals and libraries are encouraged to ask questions and seek more information about ILEAD USA • December 14 • Applications due • January 25, 2013 • Teams notified
Project Timeline • Session 1—March 26-28 • Keynote; Introduce program; highlight future of libraries and strengthening community involvement. • Intersession • Finalize project goals; connect with community representatives; investigate technological tools to accomplish project. • Session 2—June 18-20 • Presentation of product proposals through table talks; connect with unfamiliar technologies; teamwork on projects • Intersession: • Completing design and implementing a mock-up • Session 3—October 22-24 • Product presentation and sustainability
Applications • Application forms for teams and mentors available online in October via Webjunction Illinois at http://bit.ly/ileadusautah • Each individual must apply using a separate application. • Each team must submit a team application • Applicants should include a letter of support from the library where they work indicating that the library will support the time and work necessary for the program
Logistics • As of now, participants and mentors are responsible to travel to the sessions and incidentals • Meals for all attendees will be provided using grant funds. • Rooms may be provided for attendees provided we obtain proper exemption to current state rules • Final logistic information will be released with the application
Prior to the First Session • Teams will meet together as a group • Tentatively select a project focus. Identify at least one need in community of users and develop a resource to meet that need. • (For example: meet community needs during economic crisis by providing streamlined job resources) • Brainstorm individuals within that community of users who could provide feedback about the resource that will be developed
Evaluation • Institute for Legal, Legislative and Policy Studies and the Survey Research Office at the University of Illinois—Springfield • Focus on both implementation and outcomes of the training. • Evaluation includes Project teams’ initiatives. • Will include interviews with participants before, during, and after the project.
Online Workshops • Provided across the states • Gives each team the opportunity to learn about specific resources • Offers an overview of new trends
Equipment/Resource Stipends • $1,000 per Project Team. • After first session, teams will apply to use budget towards equipment that will help fulfill the need—must be project-related. • Project team members will decide which library owns the equipment.
