Update • MLI blankets for Cold Mass 1 and 2 have arrived • Order for the Radiation Shield and 1st stage tower has been placed. (Both magnets) • Cryo cooler hardware assembly complete. • Cernox sensors have been calibrated at Fermi lab and arrived back at LBL. • Silicon diode and Cernox sensors being installed to the cooler 1st and 2nd stages. • MIL blanket support brackets complete and installation started. • Power supply racks are now at LBL for re-working to be acceptable for RAL / LBL electrical safety requirements. • Control rack for the magnets is under construction following specification. • Fast DAQ for monitoring voltage taps being built at Fermi lab. • Design for new Virostek plate fixture brackets complete and is now being reviewed. • Investigation of work for the vacuum chamber end flange to accommodate the Helium window underway. • Design for the magnet stand underway to enable shipping of the magnets to be simpler being looked into. • Half nipples for the new HTS lead feedthrough are being manufactured in the LBL workshop. An enquiry is being made with the vendor if the new feedthrough can be welded directly to the current half nipple. • New feedthrough having HTS leads soldered. • Penetrations for the 5 cryo coolers being started today.
Milestones • Resistor/Diode Pack with conduction plate installed to Cold Mass – 20th October (3rd October). • 2. Cold Mass ready for Helium leak checking – 25th October (6th October). • 3. Cold Mass ready for MLI wrapping – 31st October (12th October) • 4. Assembly Starts on Upstream Spectrometer Solenoid – 17th November (25th October) • 5. Cold Mass and Shield inside the Vacuum Vessel – 6th December (14th November) • Cold Mass aligned to the Vacuum Vessel – 15th December (23rd November) • ~ Delivery of Upstream Solenoid to RAL – 8th June 2012 • ~ Delivery of Downstream Solenoid to RAL – 20th July 2012 • Resources from Wang have not been forth coming recently, the technician assigned to the Spectrometer Solenoid project was on sick leave and technical effort to replace him was not available. More technical involvement on the re-build from LBNL staff is a possibility, particularly the workshop for the manufacture of parts for the second magnet. R Preece/S Virostek 21/09/11
