Texas Plant Disease Diagnostic Lab • Founded in 1956 • Established in 1982 • National Plant Diagnostic Network member lab since 2002 • NPDN STAR-D Accredited laboratory (2017) • Mission: To provide accurate and timely plant disease diagnostic support to AgriLife Extension & Research personnel, Texas Department of Agriculture, the agriculture/green industry and the people of Texas to protect & secure our plant resources and to promote economic competitiveness
NCPN Rose Activities at A&M • 2015-2016: began activities. Tested ELISA (PNRSV & ArMV) and PCR (RRV) from TAMU rose breeding block. • 2016: Hired personnel for rose work. • 2016-2017: add ELISA (ApMV), Began process to harmonize screening/testing methods with FPS. • 2017-2018: Upgrade lab capabilities, test/screen Florida Southern College (Manners) OGR collection, test/screen Moore & TAMU collection.
2017-2018 NCPN Rose Activities • Upgrade/update capabilities: • Purchased a Biorad C-1000 – increase conventional PCR capabilities • Constructed misting table in greenhouse. • Test/Screen Moore & TAMU collection • 64 plants • Test/Screen FL Southern College OGR collection • 150 plants
Harmonization of screening methods PCR (real-time) methods for 6 viruses • Apple mosaic virus (ApMV) • Prunus necrotic ringspot virus (PNRSV) • Rose spring dwarf-associated virus (RSDaV) • Rose rosette virus (RRV) • Blackberry chlorotic ringspot virus (BCRV) • Rose yellow vein virus (RYVV)
2018-2019 NCPN Rose Activities • Upgrade/update capabilities: • Real-time PCR • Continued testing of the FL Southern College OGR collection • Assist in establishing a virus screened rose collection at the Rose Emporium (Independence, TX) • Optimize and validate virus detection testing for diagnostics (Rose virus collection project)
