12th May 2011 Issue#183 THE GTi PRO LITE ENTERS THE AUTOMOTIVE REFINISHING MARKET The DeVilbiss “GTi” brand of spray guns entered the market back in 1997 since when hundreds of thousands of the models are in daily duty in virtually every country of the world. The GTi has taken over where the JGA left off and become synonymous with high performance spray guns. GTi, GTi-W, GTi Pro, GTi Pro Digital and now we are proud to introduce the addition of the GTi Pro LITE. We can’t claim its less calorific than its bigger burgundy coloured brother but it does weigh 20% less without any compromise on quality and durability! In true DeVilbiss tradition the gun body itself is drop forged in high specification aluminium and the critical air cap is manufactured in brass and then plated for protection. Similarly the gun body is deep anodised for protection and cleaning when in use with either solvent or waterbase finishes. The gun body design is all new with an ergonomically shaped grip emblazoned with a new look DEVILBISS hallmark that sets out the gun as the genuine article.
Resplendent in a bright gold, deep anodised metallic finish the GTi Pro LITE becomes the latest member of the “i-system pro” gun family alongside the SRi Pro SMART repair gun, the PRi Pro Primer gun the VRi Pro suction gun and of course it’s big brother the GTI Pro DIGITAL. Unlike previous mid-size guns the Pro LITE features the full size air caps and shares the same fluid tips as the GTi Pro. The following pages of this eXpress newsletter will take you through the various features and technicalities of the gun. What we have achieved with this gun is to combine all the user benefits of the GTi Pro & GTi Pro Digital and incorporate them into a lighter more ergonomic body forging to better compensate for the weight of the paint in the cup. Using aluminium for the cap retaining ring and controls means reduced weight in the upper half of the gun body whilst the precision air cap remains as a plated brass item for durability and performance consistency. Spray painters are going to be talking about this gun for years to come and without doubt its set to be the success story of this decade. This is your opportunity to get onboard!
THREE NEW AIR CAPS:- Coinciding with the launch of the new GTi Pro LITE gravity is the introduction of three new air caps which are developments of the four caps currently offered with the GTi Pro Gravity and Suction guns. The chart below shows the transition from 4 to 3 and the new laser markings, designations, inlet pressures and air consumptions on the Pro LITE caps. To avoid confusion with the international paint companies these new air caps are being sold on Pro LITE guns globally in Auto Refinish Europe & the USA. The decision was therefore made to move away from Trans-Tech branding and adopt the name HIGH EFFICIENCY for the two non HVLP compliant caps. Things to note:- These new air caps should not be used (and will not be available in the short term ) with the full size GTi Pro gravity or suctions guns. Also note the reduced inlet pressure of 1.75 bar for the HV30 air cap.
The GTi Pro LITE PRO-470 spray gun service kit is similar to the PRO- 415-1 kit for the full size GTi Pro guns but with a few key differences which you need to be aware of. The trigger stud is different (length), the trigger spring is different and there is no rear seat seal as air valve seat is totally different. However the needle packing components, the gun body gasket and the cir-clip pin and valve seals are the same.
NEW SPRAY HEAD AIR MANAGEMENT :- New SN-69-K Original SN-17-1 (GTi Pro LITE) (GTi Pro) The GTi Pro LITE features an all new spray head (baffle) distinguished by a darker grey hard anodising process. This spray head does not require the air deflection plate and therefore avoids a possible dirt trap. It also incorporates a friction dowel pin to locate in the gun body so that the spray head does not drop off when the fluid tip is removed.

Coaxial Air Valve Assembly & Maintenance :- The GTi Pro coaxial air valve shuttle has seals front and rear both of which require insertion and location using the special brass service tool. The tool which is only available with the PRO-471 valve kit has two location points and each seal has to be inserted in sequence. The shuttle section can then be slid into place – chamfer facing forward. The GTi Pro LITE PRO-471 air valve kit contains all the components and service tool shown at right. This includes the front and rear shuttle seals, the shuttle, the valve seat, the valve shuttle spring and a spare fluid needle spring and rear pad. The needle spring and pad is also available separately in a kit of three items under the part number PRO-473-K3. Air Valve Kit PRO-471
NEW FLUID NEEDLE BODY HOUSING :- The GTi Pro LITE features a redesigned fluid needle body housing to further reduce gun weight and complexity. Gone is the hexagonal section body bushing with an internal thread for the fluid control knob. This is replaced by a slimmer plated brass bushing that features an external thread for positive location of the lightweight aluminium, fluted control knob. The bushing is secured into the gun body by means of a 6mm Allen key. This avoids the risk of damage to the body when using a spanner or clashes with the spreader valve. Needle Part No is PRO-301-K Needle grip button
