High School Timetable • The high school year • is divided into two semesters • September – January • February – June • Faster pace • students take four courses each semester • except for music, courses are one semester • final exams are written in January and June • grade 10 students take a full program

High School Credits • Credits • credits are earned for every course taken • students must complete the course with 50% or higher • full course = 5 credits • half course = 3 credits • in high school students pass or fail by course and not by grade • Career and Technology Courses are offered in one credit modules

10. Teacher Recommendation/Request for Course Change • If a teacher recommends you for a course, but you wish to take a different course, then you and your parents need to complete a “Request for Course Change”. • For example: In June, if your teacher recommends you for math 10 -3, but you wish to take math 10 C, then you must complete this form in September and return to your Guidance Counsellor so the change can be made. • You can obtain this form from the school’s website, under Quick Links the section on forms.

Registration: Power School • Following today’s presentation: • Power School is now open for Course Requests, fill out the coloured hard copies of your course selection sheet. • Have sheet with you for reference when you sit to register on Power School. • February 26th online registration should be finished AND coloured sheets returned to main office. • Verification Sheets will be handed out in March/April

21. Summer School • If you are interested in Summer School, in March/April go to the website Chinook Learning Services for information. There you will find what courses are available, when they are offered, and where they are offered, and so on. • In May come to Student Services to sign up for your course. • You are allowed one course only. • Classes run in the morning only from 8AM to Noon. • Summer School is approximately 19 days during the month of July, thus it is not meant for a student to take a core subject for the first time. • PE 10 offered as 3 credits in Summer School
