Monthly Max Cap Profiles October 12, 2011 HMTF Conference Call
Max Cap Profiles • A max cap profile is used to vary the maximum capacity of a plant by month • For HD plants, the max cap profile is derived directly from the historical shape, because we intend PROMOD to use the shape
Max Cap Profiles for PLF/HTC Plants • For PLF/HTC plants, the max cap profile will allow the maximum capacity of the PLF/HTC shape to vary by month • Question: What values do we use to derive the max cap profile for HTC/PLF plants? • The plant’s nameplate capacity? • Max capacity by month observed in the HD shape, when available? • Only if the max cap observed is greater than nameplate? • Operator reported max capacities • More likely to reflect operational restrictions/flexibility
Comparison of months with generation above and below nameplate capacity for HTC-modeled plants in CA for 2005
