Business Model I • DANTE is co-ordinating partner • European NREN partners • EC funding from DG EuropeAid • EC IST involvement • 3 year programmes • 10M Euro/80% funding
Business Model II • 3 phase projects: feasibility, tendering, operations • Supplier contracts with DANTE • Provide European experience • Adapt approach to local requirements and circumstances
Coordinating Partner - DANTE • AP beneficiaries: • China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam • AP Non-beneficiaries • Brunei, Japan, Korea, Singapore • EU partners: • NRENs of France, Netherlands, UK • Planning studies (Phase 1) – May 2004 to October 2004 • Phase 2 tender and operations to December 2007
Current Feasibility phase investigating: • AP NREN status and needs • Supplier market • Scope for collaboration with other organisations and initiatives • Co-ordination with existing FR-KR TEIN link • Cost sharing • Organisation and sustainability options
Projected Timescales Ph 1 – Feasibility study Ph 2A - Tender Ph 2B – In Service 1/2004 1/2005 1/2006 1/2007 1/2008
Current Status • Feasibility Study proceeding well, active support from Asian Partners • 2 project meetings already held • Connectivity market prices still high, but will be negotiated for TEIN2 • Exploring collaborations with other projects • No pre-defined topology – maximise participation and capacity is key
