  2. Sarees can be seen as an emblem of traditional clothing, when it comes to women wear. It’s representation of ethnic wear is unparallel and is second to none. Dating back its origin to the Indus valley civilization, sarees are an integral part of our ethnicity, our tradition and our culture. Allover India, there is a bevy of saree varieties. Every state has a unique type of saree to offer, with their own uniqueness in make and craftsmanship. Among all other states, Bengal has a lot to offer. The variety in the designs, motif and craftsmanship that Bengal offers, not many other states can match. There are many shops that offer Exclusive Sarees in Kolkata. AlsoLinen Sarees in Kolkata are a craze too.

  3. Taantsarees • The first and foremost and probably the most famous, in India and abroad alike, saree that Bengal has up his sleeve is the Taantsaree.Taant itself means ‘made on the loom’. These are special saree made by handlooms by weavers from Hoogly, Murshidabad, and Nadia district in India. The weavers have been crafting are these taantsarees for generations on, so, naturally they are the masters of their trade, creating sarees that are the epitomes of craftsmanship. Made from cotton, the taantsaree is crisp and soft and offer comfort especially in the hot and humid climate of Kolkata, due to its lightness. Taantsarees are Exclusive Sarees in Kolkata and are offered in nearly all the shops.

  4. Balucharisarees • Near Bhagirathi River in Murshidabad, there’s a village called Baluchari-the home of the famous Balucharisarees. It’s a five yard long saree which comes in bright and vibrant colors mostly purple, deep blue and flame red. Of about 200 years of age, these sarees are made of silk and are woven in looms in the traditional way. The body of the saree has intricate and masterful floral patterns and designs, while the pallu is filled with buttis and scenes depicting mythological texts from epics like Mahabharata and Ramayana.

  5. Garadsarees • Garad is another famous traditional lightweight saree from Bengal. Produced in murshidabad district of Bengal, they are fine pure silk sarees with their texture resembling tissue paper. They are characterized by their white and off white body with plain border (mostly red) and a striped pallu. The body is unornamented and is plain with no designs but little flower motifs can be seen in the border and pallu.

  6. Kantha silk sarees • These saree are from BolpurShantiniketan region. Traditionally done by the womenfolk of these areas, these are always done by hand without the use of any machinery. The Kanthasaree are done with elaborate and decorative motifs all over the body with running stich.These motifs can range from folk art to floral, animal or bird motifs. The intricacies of the embroidered patters give the saree its lightness or heaviness.
