API 17V – Subsea Safety June 2013 API 17V By Christopher Curran January 2013
Context • Historically have used API 14C • How many times does API 14C reference “subsea” • “The SSV is optional on subsea installations equipped with USVs.” • Ongoing developments led to BSEE developing numerous NTLs: • 2009 – G36 Using alternate compliance in safety systems for subsea production operations • Using secondary recovery methods including gas lift and water flood for subsea production operations • Subsea pumping for production operations • API Summer 2011 – BSEE requested API to address the gap
API RP17V – Subsea Safety Systems • Work group formed Summer 2011 following request from BSEE • Closely following and working with API 14C • First draft issued to reading group Summer 2012 • Targeting second draft end 1H 2013 • Target Ballot in 2013 • NB API 17O took 5 years, so this is fast track! • BSEE have been actively engaged in this work since its inception
API 17V – Areas to be covered • Production and Injection trees • Flowlines • Chemical injection • Manifolds • Subsea separation • Subsea boosting • Subsea compression • Gas lift • HIPPS
