  8. WSSA/WSI Finals • The CHIETA is allocated to support Welding and Electrical skills areas for WSSA World Skills South Africa (WSSA) leading to World Skills International Finals • WSSA Competition are held annually while WSI are held every second year internationally • Competitors must be under or be 22 years of age during WSI • Learning from international communities with better performance at WSI – preparation of competitions is a long term plan of action • The curriculum of SA schools and TVET colleges does not include some international standards on which WSI competition are based – more training and preparation of candidates is required • CHIETA has a pilot project of capacitating TVET colleges on World Skills standards and beyond: Phase 1 and Phase 2 started at Maluti TVET College which had been more keen on better during the previous WSSA competitions – the pilot would be rolled out to other colleges • One of the key outcomes of the project is to identify and develop potential learners who could take part in future WSSA and WSI competitions – better preparations and better performance • Alongside identification of potential candidates, there is a need to capacitate TVET college facilitators as they are involved in training and assessment of WSSA candidates and other learners at their respective colleges – a ripple effect approach
