Brown field pilot plant Sarpsborg • Investment 130 mill NOK • 58 mill NOK in investment support from Norwegian government • Operational from early 2012 • Full flexibility for process conditions and feedstock • Scope includes basic plant building, BALI core technology as well as downstream processing • Core IP: pretreatment and hydrolysis • Lignin production • Pentose * fermentation (SCP for fish feed or ethanol) • Importance of pilot: • Verify IP and prove the concept; improve value of technology • Test for and remove potential technology risks identified in full scale plant project • Confirm investment costs before scale-up • Attract potential partners and future financing for full scale plant * Pentose: Sugar from lignocellulose that can not be transformed into bioethanol
