What is sin? • Transgression of the law • 1 John 3:4 Whosoever commits sin transgresses also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. What is sin? • Failure to do good is sin • James 4:17 Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin. • More is required than NOT doing wrong. • We must DO what is right. • Knowing – but failing to act – is a sin
What is sin? • Violation of your conscience is sin • Romans 14:23 But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not eat from faith; for whatever is not from faith is sin. • The conscience is an internal moral regulator. • When properly taught – it convicts, corrects, censures, convinces • Violate your conscience = undermine your integrity, ruins your honor, destroys your virtue.

Sin separates us FROM GOD • Isaiah 59:1-2 1 Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened, That it cannot save; Nor His ear heavy, That it cannot hear. 2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear. • Sin is the great divider.
