Budget 2003/4 • SITTC Budget proposed in summer, based on wish lists in CS, Cyb, EE and ITNG • School Budget £100K too much, unless items can be capital (order ≥ £10,000 +VAT) • Items in EE, Cyb and ITNG thought capital • School budget only need cutting by £30K • SITTC only cut by £10K: covered by buying some items on wish list at end of last year • Now saying in which month items to be got SITTC Report

Budget continued • However, we have more postgrads than thought, so spend more on PCs (£6K over) • We may have underestimated software • But have contingency money…. • Agreed: new PCs provided for all new PGs • Agreed: have pool of PCs for MScs • Agreed: staff PCs never >5 years old • (Next year will need to buy many of these) SITTC Report

ITNG Report • PCs set up in School labs (inc G45) • some relocation so can phase refitting labs • Software in labs refreshed / updated • Newer LINUX available in many labs • (allows clustering of computers) • G40 NTI room ready; • G39/G40 to be done up so training suite for NTI • ITS installed new network core • New student card entry scheme • but Buildings not installed reader for us yet. • Backup system procured and under test SITTC Report

CAVE, Maya and VR • Dave Roberts is going: he briefed SITTC • Discussed some options for CAVE etc. • SITTC supported ideas, and felt the School/Uni should continue the CAVE • Hope industrial interest firms up • Noted: SITTC helped funding • MAYA is ‘best’ VR software – • should be selling point that our students use it • have purchased few less seats: enuf this year SITTC Report

  6. Lift • Building work in summer, lift in at xmas • Over summer part of G56 cordoned off, hole made in ceiling to room above • involved more work than first thought • ITNG access to network switch restricted. • Should have been done by end of Sept • Current plan, to be done by end of Oct • Lift actually installed Dec 14th ….
