Red Turpentine Beetle (Dendroctonus valens) Host: Ponderosa and lodge pole pine. Can infest any pine species Largest & Weakest Trees are attacked: Trees also injured by fire, logging, and other damages Beetle gallery Very Large Red Pitch tubes
Western Pine Beetle (Dendroctonus brevicomis) Host: Ponderosa Pine Kills trees that are less than 6 inches
Mountain Pine Beetle (Dendrotonusponderosae) Hosts: All Native and introduced species of pines Kills trees less than 5 inches
Douglas Fir Beetle (Dendroctonus pseudotsugae) Hosts: Douglas Fir, Western Larch Attack trees less than 12 inches
Ambrosia Beetle (Trypodendronspp) Hosts: True Firs, Spruce, Douglas Fir, Hemlock, Larch, Pine Attacks tree that are weak, dying or recently cut
