What is Turnitin? • A web application that allows instructors to evaluate your submitted paper(s) • Features • The instructor can see how much of your information is original • The instructor can view your sources in color coded format
Two Options For Students • View Originality Report • Allows you to see the originality report • Enables you to edit before submission • Submit the Paper • Once this occurs, you can no longer edit yourpaper!
The Originality Report • What Does It Mean? • The percentage of material that is NOT original None 0-24% 25%-49% 50%-74% 75%-100%
Interpreting the Originality Report • A higher percentage DOES NOT necessarily mean that you have plagiarized • Be sure to check the details of the originality report by clicking on the colored box next to the paper submission • Other Possibilities: • A large amount of direct Quotes • Included facts/terms that are “common knowledge” • Found in five or more sources • Always check with your professor!
