  4. AUDIENCE ANALYSIS • KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE • PRELIMNARY ANALYSIS • SIZE UP THE AUDIENCE IN ADVANCE e.g. CHARACTERISTICS SUCH AS SEX, EDUCATION , EXPERIENCE, etc CAN HELP IN ADAPTATION. ALSO SIZE OF AUDIENCE INFLUENCES HOW FORMAL /INFORMAL YOU OUGHT TO BE. • CONTINUOUS ANALYSIS DURING PRESENTATION FEEDBACK THROUGH FACIAL EXPRESSIONS, MOVEMENTS, NOISES, QUESTIONS etc MAKE YOU LEARN FROM THE AUDIENCE AND ADAPT YOUR SPEECH ACCORDINGLY.

  5. APPEARANCE& BODY ACTIONS • COMMUNICATION ENVIRONMENT ; ALL THAT SURROUNDS THE SPEAKER TENDS TO ADD TO THE GENERAL IMPRESSION. PHYSICAL THINGS LIKE THE STAGE, LIGHTING, BACKGROUND NOISES FROM OUTSIDE TEND TO DISTRACT THE LISTENERS. • PERSONAL APPEARANCE; DRESS APPROPRIATELY FOR THE AUDIENCE & OCCASION.LOOK CLEAN & WELL GROOMED. USE FACIAL EXPRESSIONS & BODY MOVEMENTS TO YOUR ADV. • POSTURE; BODY WT TO BE DISTRIBUTED IN A COMFORTABLE & POISED WAY. BE ERECT & YET COMFORTABLE.NATURALLY POISED, ALERT & COMMUNICATIVE. COMMON FAULTS ARE ; • LACK OF PITCH VARIATION- MONOTONES. • LACK OF VARIATION IN SPEED-HOW FAST TO TALK. EASY PARTS AT BRISK PACE, & HARD TO UNDERSTAND INFO AT LOWER PACE.EASY AT SLOW PACE IS IRRITATING.INCORRECT/ ARBITRARY USE OF PAUSES IS DETRIMENTAL TO LISTENERS’ CONCENTRATION. “YOU KNOW” ,“OK's”,“UH’S” ETC USED TO FILL PAUSES. • LACK OF EMPHASIS BY VARIATION IN VOLUME;LOUD ENOUGH BUT NOT TOO LOUD. VARIETY IS THE KEY. • UNPLEASANT VOICE QUALITY; NASAL, RASPY ETC CAN BE IMPROVED BY THERAPY & MADE PLEASANT. • SELF -ANALYSIS IS THE KEY.

  7. VISUAL AIDS • SOUND EXISTS ONLY FOR A FEW MOMENTS LISTENERS MAY MISS THE MESSAGE FOR EVER. VISUAL AIDS ENHANCE SPOKEN WORDS- BOARDS, CHARTS, SLIDES, TABLES, FILMS , ETC ARE STRONG SUPPORTS. • PROPER USE OF DESIGN;FOR DIFFICULT/VAGUE OR CONFUCING TOPICS AS PART OF MESSAGE, NOT DRAMA. • FORM TO CONSIDER; NO ONE FORM IS BEST- FLEXIBLE APPROACH IS REQUIRED.CHARTS,GRAPHS,DIAGRAMS, PICTURES,ETC COULD BE CONSIDEREDTHR’ SLIDES, OHP, FLIP-CHART, BOARD ETC. ALSO VIDEOS,& DEMOS. • TECHNIQUES FOR USING VA’s; CARRY KEY PARTS- POINTS OF EMPHASIS. BLEND THEM IN WITH WORDS. • *MAKE SURE OF VA's VISIBILITY *EXPLAIN THE VA FOR EASE OF UNDERSTANDING *ORG VA AS PART OF PRESENTATION- FIT INTO A PLAN *EPPHASISE VA WITH WORDS & ACTIONS *TALK TO AUDIENCE NOT TO VA.
