Definition of Bias • Bias is a leaning or preference towards a certain perspective or point of view. This can effect someone’s ability to be neutral (not leaning to one side or another), or unprejudiced,. Bias is generally seen as a 'one-sided' perspective. Everyone has some bias based on their background.
Bias Example • The information on the NRA website (National Rifle Association) is biased toward people who own firearms.
Credibility Definition • Credibility refers to how believable the source of a message seems.
Credibility continued • Credibility usually has two parts: trustworthiness and expertise. Trustworthiness has to do with how much we trust the source of the information. Expertise also is about the source of the message but relates to things like the speaker’s credentials, certification or the quality of their information .
Credibility Example • Information on the NASA website is considered very credible because it is put together by experts that we trust.
