COSM Grid3 Hardware HamptonU Site HU_HuAtlas Site
HamptonU Site Specs • Hardware Specification: • 10, 2.6 GHz Xeon Processors. • 7 GB RAM. • 1.2 TB SCSI RAID-5 data storage. • Gigabit Intra-site connection. • Software Specification: • RedHat 7.3. • Virtual Data Kit 1.1.14a. • Globus, Condor and MPI. • Other ATLAS Applications.
OSG Testing/Integration • Balance ATLAS Rome Production readiness and changes required for OSG integration. • A staggered approach to OSG integration. • Create small OSG test bed site. • Participation in the Integration Test Bed with ITB Release 0.1.4. • COSM will assist in documenting the installation procedure.
ATLAS Production • HamptonU is a ATLAS production site. • Capone, Windmill, Don Quixote, ATLAS GCE Server • Full Participation in ROME Production.
Local ATLAS Computing • Local ATLAS resources. • HamptonU Site available. • 4 nodes providing: • 5 Pentium IV CPUs • 7 GB RAM • ~1TB hard drive space available, • May 2005, add 1 TB unit.
Computing Research • Within Hampton: • Multi-disciplinary approach to develop applications using grid computing technology. • Within COSM: • Web-based front-end GUI for submitting Grid jobs (2 students).
Developing Applications for Grid Computing. • Apply grid computing to nursing in a distance learning environment(Dr. Loius Bellinger). • A concept paper has been written. • Persons involved: • Dr. Lewis Ballinger, Dr. O. Keith. Baker, Dr. Anne Price, Dr. Angela Jones, Dr. Johnnie Bunch, Dr. William Edmonson interested students and myself. • Forming a multi-disciplinary team to find and assess the feasibility of applications of Grid Computing beyond the present scientific applications.
Web based Grid GUI • Make HamptonU/Grid3 less formidable to non-scientists and easier for scientists. • Mr. Carl Bailey Jr., Mr. Carter Adkins and COSM are developing a user-friendly, web-based GUI to submit jobs to Grid3. • PHP programming language with Perl CGI programming. • Prototype works.
Wed Based GUI • Kristie Lee, has three major tasks: • Install, configure and successfully test a windows 2000 Globus/Condor site. • Help Mr. Bailey and Mr. Adkins in their research. • Implement the GUI developed by Mr. Bailey and Mr. Adkins on the Windows 2000 Globus/Condor site.
Student Researchers in collaboration • Kristie demonstrates grid functionality which Carl and Carter.
Outreach • Establishment of a HBCU network based on computing interests. • Grid computing component of COSM summer program.
Extending the HBCU network • Assist approved HBCUs to build local grid sites. • COSM sub-award facility to fund some grid projects with HBCUs. • COSM help provides technical know-how. • COSM provides a software package of Grid jobs e.g. Monti Carlos etc • Southern University, Morehouse College, Norfolk State University, Grambling University.
Extending the HBCU Network (cont’d) • Significant progress with Southern University. • Ongoing discussion stages with Morehouse, Grambling and Norfolk State Universities.
Grid Computing in COSM Summer Program • 4 weeks of research on using globus and condor. • Summer 2004: • 3 students from 3 different institutions. • Quick Linux introduction. • Globus/Condor introduction with lab exercises using the Grid. • Project using a remote Grid3 site to run a locally compiled c++ program requiring an input data file and producing an output data file. • Students created on online tutorial site for the Center and presented their project. • http://cosmlxas0.hamptonu.edu/summer
Things to be done • Migrate HamptonU to the OSG. • Expand HBCU network. • COSM summer program 2005. • Continue various research endeavors.
